What’s The Real Meaning Of Kwanzaa?
In 1966, Maulana Karenga created Kwanzaa, the first specifically Black holiday.
Karenga, an “African studies” professor at California State University, Long Beach, has said his goal was to “give Blacks an alternative to the existing holiday and give Blacks an opportunity to celebrate themselves and their history, rather than simply imitate the practice of the dominant society.”
But what is there to celebrate about Black history? What is the purpose of this day?
Thankfully, “A Charlie Brown Kwanzaa” answers these questions and communicates the real meaning of Kwanzaa.
